The Ninglashaini Bhagwati Temple, located
in Dasharathchand Municipality,
Baitadi District, holds great religious and mythological significance. This temple is
considered one of the most sacred
Hindu temples in the Sudurpaschim
Province of Nepal.
Every year, during the Maha Ashtami festival, a grand jatra (religious fair) is held at
the temple, where goats and he buffaloes
are sacrificed as offerings to the goddess. It is a tradition
to bring sacrificial animals
to the temple on the Saptami (seventh
day) of Dashain,
and on Maha Ashtami (eighth day),
the sacrifices take place as part of the ritual. This temple is known for
conducting one of the highest numbers
of animal sacrifices in the entire Sudurpashchim region during Maha
Ashtami. Not only Nepalese devotees but also worshippers from various parts of India come to pay
their respects to Goddess Ninglashaini
and seek her blessings.
Annual Festivals and Rituals
The Ninglashaini
Bhagwati Temple hosts four
major jatras (festivals) throughout the year:
- Maha Ashtami Jatra (During Dashain) – Animal sacrifices are performed.
- Chaitra Ashtami Jatra – Includes animal sacrifices.
- Ananta Chaturdashi Mela – A religious fair without animal sacrifices.
- Mangsir Shukla Purnima Mela – A peaceful festival without sacrifices.
In an effort to maintain peace and sanctity during these events, the Dehimadau area surrounding the temple has been declared an alcohol-free zone
during the festivals and religious
celebrations.
The Ninglashaini
Temple is not only a religious site but also a cultural heritage that showcases
Nepal’s age-old traditions, rituals,
and spiritual devotion. It is believed that Goddess Ninglashaini is a powerful divinity who grants protection, prosperity,
and success to her devotees.
The temple is surrounded by scenic natural beauty, with lush green hills, rivers, and a peaceful environment.
Many visitors come here not just for religious purposes but also to enjoy the peaceful and spiritual atmosphere.
The temple is an important spiritual
and historical landmark in the region, preserving centuries-old religious traditions.
The Ninglashaini
Bhagwati Temple is considered a Shakti Peetha (a powerful seat of Goddess Durga),
making it a must-visit place for Hindu
