Koilahi Lake, Kailari Rural-Municipality Kailali ( कोइलही ताल कैलारी गाँउपालिका, कैलाली )

Koilahi Lake, situated in the western part of Kailari Rural Municipality and connected to the border of Gauriganga Municipality, is a natural treasure in Kailali district. It is located approximately 8 kilometers from Rajipur along the East-West Highway. This lake, a gift of nature, is home to various species of fish and birds. The lake has taken a step toward commercial development through the leasing of fish farming operations, which cultivate different fish species on a large scale. On the eastern side of the lake, there is a picnic spot and a religious temple, attracting both locals and visitors.

A Picturesque Destination for Picnics and Tourism

Surrounded by dense Saal trees, Koilahi Lake is a naturally stunning location. To ensure the preservation of the lake, a protective fence has been installed around it. Starting from the month of Mangsir (mid-November to mid-December), the lake attracts a large number of domestic tourists, especially for picnics and recreational activities. It is widely recognized as a popular spot for picnics and gatherings.

For visitors, a viewing tower has been constructed, offering a panoramic view of the lake and its surroundings. Despite having only 4-5 designated picnic spots, the area often sees a high influx of picnic-goers, making it a lively and sought-after destination. The natural beauty, combined with the amenities for recreation, makes Koilahi Lake a must-visit place in Kailali district.

Source of Irrigation and Local Heritage

The pristine waters of Koilahi Lake serve as a vital resource, ensuring that five villages located to the south of the lake never face irrigation shortages. Since ancient times, the local residents of these five villages have played a significant role in the preservation and promotion of the lake.
If the surrounding areas of the lake are further organized and the roads leading to the lake are properly developed, this region has the potential to become one of the most attractive tourist destinations within Kailari Rural Municipality. The natural beauty combined with its utility as an irrigation source makes Koilahi Lake a symbol of both environmental and cultural significance.
